I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
In our lives, there are many things that try to stifle our attitude. I am sure you have been there just like I have. We are hard at work at what God has called us to do, and then come the naysayers. Circumstances come our way that make us think that it is impossible to keep on doing our best. It is important in those times that we make sure that we are relying on the Lord and not ourselves. In those moments, we need a thought to strengthen our souls. It is these times that we must keep a winning attitude.
To illustrate a winning attitude, let me remind you of Roger Bannister. Up until Roger, no one had broken the four-minute mile. People had tried everything they could imagine, but nothing had worked. It had finally been decided that it was humanly impossible for a person to run the mile in less than four minutes, and in everyone‘s mind there were countless reasons why it could not be done. Too much wind resistance, inadequate lung power, as well as our bone structure, were all reasons why it could not be done. Everyone had accepted the fact that it was just impossible.
Then came Roger, who did what millions of other runners had only tried to do; he broke the four-minute mile on May 6, 1954. Amazingly, the year after Roger’s success, thirty-seven other runners broke the four-minute mile. The next year, three hundred repeated the same feat. Since then, the "four-minute barrier" has been broken by over 1,400 male athletes; what happened? Was it a great breakthrough in aerodynamics or physiology? The only thing that changed was human attitude. Attitude makes all the difference in the world.
Winners in life think constantly in terms of “I can”. Paul was a great example of this; in Philippians 4:13, he states “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. Paul was not boasting about himself. He was trusting in the Lord. He had been through a lot. At times, he had enough, and at times, he had suffered from not having what he needed. It didn't matter what state he found himself in, he trusted in the Lord. That is the reason he could say, "I can do all things”. He had a winning attitude. When things were great or when trouble came his way, he trusted in the Lord who strengthened him. He had a winning attitude. "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."
So, when you find yourself hard at work at what God has called you to do and the naysayers come, when circumstances come your way that make you think that it is impossible to keep on doing your best, make sure that you are relying on the Lord and not yourself. In those moments, remember this thought to strengthen your soul. Keep that wining attitude and remember, " You can do all things through Christ which strengthens you”!
