"Just a thought about meditation"

Today, I was just thinking about how we should meditate on God's Word; by this, I am talking about the practice of contemplating and reflecting upon God's Word.
When we read a passage of Scripture and pour over it in order to gain an understanding that we can apply to our life, it makes God's Word become real in our life. It is a wonderful thing to find those gold nuggets hidden in God's Word and make them ours.
To begin with, we must read God's Word. It doesn't have to be a large portion. It can be a single verse or even just a phrase. As you do this, ask God to show you something from His Word; then when He does, begin meditating on it. Think about it, mull it over in your mind, and start thinking of all the
possibilities that this can mean. Pray and ask God to give you a clearer understanding of exactly what this means. Pray about it, and ask the Lord what He would like for you to learn from it.
Start comparing it with other Scriptures and ask yourself how it relates to the Scriptures that God begins bringing to your mind. Look up those Scriptures and study them comparing them in light of the Scripture you are meditating on. It is always good to thank the Lord for what He is showing you.
Try to formulate in your mind what God is saying to you specifically, and make the application that He gives to you. Many times, the Lord will show something that He wants us to work on or some sin that He wants us to realize that is in our life. Go ahead and confess it as sin; ask for His forgiveness and for His help.
Keep looking for the principles that God wants you to live by. This is just a thought about meditation. I encourage you to spend some time every day meditating on God's Word. You will be glad you did!
